What we promise about these voices.

We keep these voices for at least ten years. After that we write and ask whether to carry on, and as long as you say yes they stay. We never delete anything without asking you first. If that promise ever has to change, you get ninety days’ notice and every recording sent to you first.

Nothing here depends on us alone. Every voice that arrives comes with a link to save your own copy, and you can ask for a fresh link whenever you like. Keep those files somewhere that is yours.

Who can hear them

Once you make a heart yours, only the phones you have signed in on can listen. Someone who picks up your keys hears nothing. You can make a heart open to anyone holding it, and you can make it private again, any time.

Where they live

The recordings sit in private storage. When you tap your heart we hand your phone a link that works for a few minutes and then stops working. We do not sell anything about you, we do not advertise to you, and we do not listen to your recordings.

If the person whose voice it holds dies

Tell us. We will close that heart so nothing can change it, and we will keep it at no cost for as long as you keep it with us. Every ten years we write and ask whether to carry on. As long as you say yes it carries on, for as long as you want it to. We will never delete a closed heart without asking you first, twice, months apart, at the address on your account.

We used to say “for good” here. We have put a number on it instead, because a promise with no end in it is one you cannot hold us to, and because the rule that protects a child’s recording does not let anyone keep one with no end in sight. This is the same promise with a date on it, and the date renews.

We will send you everything in it straight away, as your own files, so it never depends on us. If you find another recording of them later, you can still add it yourself. We will not ask you to prove anything.

If something goes wrong

A lost phone is fine: sign in again by email. A lost card is fine: write to us and we will issue a new box code. A heart that will not read is fine: we will replace it.
